About Ms Kathy
Ms Kathy has been offering STEM opportunities for youth through adults for over 20 years. She holds a B.S. degree from Hofstra University in Computer Science and Mathematics. Ms Kathy rose to the ranks of Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM’s premier mainframe division, helping to design their largest computers. Her work has been highlighted in R&D journals, she holds several U.S. patents, and was awarded a prestigious IBM Corporate Award. Throughout her career, Ms Kathy took every opportunity to inspire young people to explore and enjoy her passions: science, technology, engineering and math.
In the early 2000s, Ms Kathy was offered a sabbatical to further pursue her passion of inspiring youth. She joined Poughkeepsie’s Promise, an after-school program where she developed and offered daily STEM programs to students in each of the City of Poughkeepsie elementary schools. That work sparked her desire to finish up her career so she could focus on her passion full-time. After 34 years with IBM, she retired in early 2016, adding new youth STEM programs to her repertoire ever since.
From learning to incubate and care for young chicks, ducklings and quail over the last decade to coaching a high-school level VEX Robotics team to NY state championships to leading an award-winning youth garden program, Ms Kathy has inspired youth (and adults) to fly drones, learn about monarchs, program Lego robots and so much more. She continues to learn and share new avenues of discovery. Ms Kathy is eager to share her passion for learning with your youth!
